Beneficiaries to date

• Cumulative First Time Individuals Benefited reflects one uncharacteristic $711,000 housing guarantee between 1999 and 2004 that leveraged $66 million in bank loans to 64 housing contractors -- building 62,109 homes and creating 930,285 jobs. Excluding this guarantee, Shared Interest has benefited more than 1 million people.
• Methodology and Assumptions: (1) impact data are gathered directly from institutions and enterprises that have received the guarantees; (2) job creation data are calculated based on borrowers’ reports and ratios promulgated by the South African government; (3) only direct beneficiaries are counted (even though the lives of other family members may improve as a result of their business loans and new or improved homes); (4) first-time beneficiaries are counted (although they may receive more than one loan).
